For most small businesses operating in low-to-medium risk environments (like offices, small retail shops, or hairdressers), a CompliDocs template reviewed by a responsible person within your business is sufficient. The Health and Safety at Work Act requires that you have a 'competent person' to assist — this can be someone within your business with the right knowledge, not necessarily an external consultant. If you operate in higher-risk environments or have more complex operations, we recommend seeking professional advice in addition to using our documents.

Yes. We strongly encourage you to review and customise your document. Your download is a PDF, which most PDF editors (including Adobe Acrobat and the free tools available online) allow you to annotate and complete. For the best results, use it as a basis to add any hazards specific to your premises, remove any that aren't relevant, and update the controls to reflect what you actually have in place. The document is a starting point — your sign-off process is what makes it specific to you.

The Health and Safety Executive recommends reviewing your risk assessment whenever there is a significant change to your work activity, working environment, or workforce — and in any event at least once per year as good practice. The documents CompliDocs generates include a review date set 12 months from the generation date as a reminder. If you change your premises, introduce new equipment or chemicals, or have an accident or near-miss, you should review immediately.

We currently cover six common business types: pubs and bars, hairdressers and barbershops, restaurants and cafes, retail shops, offices, and beauty and nail salons. We are continuously expanding our library. If your business type isn't listed, please get in touch via our contact page and we will let you know when it becomes available. We may also be able to point you towards the most relevant existing template as a starting point.

Yes. Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS in the EU), with row-level security ensuring only you can access your documents. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. CompliDocs serves businesses, not private consumers, so standard consumer cooling-off rights do not apply. All documents are delivered digitally and immediately upon payment. A risk assessment identifies the hazards present in your workplace or activity, assesses the likelihood and severity of harm, and documents the controls you have in place to manage those risks. A method statement (sometimes called a safe system of work) takes this further by describing, step by step, exactly how a specific task should be carried out safely — who does what, in what order, using what equipment. Risk assessments are required for virtually all businesses under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. Method statements are typically required for more complex or higher-risk tasks, or when working for a principal contractor.
